PACE Measures

We are happy to share these measures as we want them to be widely used! Please keep us updated on your uses of the measures, including any conference presentations, dissertations/theses or publications. If you’re willing to collaborate or share data with us, please visit our contact page and send us a message.

 

Additionally, if you are planning to use any of our measures in another language please let us know. At a minimum, the measures need to be translated and back translated for our review. If you would like to collaborate around cultural adaptations please contact us.

Traditional PACEs
T-PACEs

A brief, 10-item yes/no scale for adults to assess childhood experiences before age 18. Ideal for pairing with the traditional ACE scale, especially in intervention or time-limited settings.

Current PACEs
C-PACEs

A self-report scale measuring the frequency and duration of experiences in the past 12 months on a 1–5 Likert scale.

Retrospective PACEs
R-PACEs

An adult self-report scale capturing experiences across three developmental life stages (early childhood, middle childhood, and adolescence) on a 1–5 Likert scale. Recommended to be used alongside Current PACEs (C-PACEs). 

Child PACEs
Ch-PACEs

A caregiver-report scale assessing their child’s experiences in the last 12 months on a 1-5 Likert scale. Adapted for early childhood, middle childhood, or adolescence. 

PACEs in the ABCD Study

A likert-scale assessing frequency and duration of each PACE in the last year - not available yet
